Could sonic booms in gas nebulas herald the birth of new stars?

Are you familiar with the "Aliens" movie trailer where the announcer said "In space no one can hear you scream"? Space is a partial vacuum, therefore there is no chance of a sonic boom being heard outside the nebula. In any case light travels far faster than sound, and our first indication that a new star had ignited would be the light of the nuclear reactions.
