Registering a marriage?

I got married in Malad E gurudwara. Someone told me that the marriage can be registerd in local ward office. Is that true? What is the procedure? I have the registration form which was collected by a friend from the ward office. Can I and my wife and witnesses sign the document and then one of us can go and submit or do all of us have to go to the ward office? Thanks in advance.
