Why would anybody from north america convert to islam?

Islam literally means submit in Arabic and 8 of the 10 most dangerous counties to live in are Muslim. Every single muslim majority Country in the world is plagued with excessive violence. I dont understand the mentality of people who join this religion. Especially women. Please explain it to me?
